Meet Vanessa

The author’s journey is a testament to her lifelong passion for education and creativity.  From a young age she dreamt of becoming a teacher, driven by a love for working with young children and nurturing their development.  Growing up in Perth, her childhood was filled with creative pursuits, particularly poetry and a deep appreciation for literature.

 

Her academic path led her to the University of Western Australia (UWA) where she pursued an Arts degree with a double major in English.

Following this she earned a teaching degree from Edith Cowan University, honing her skills to inspire and educate future generations with a strong interest in early childhood development.

 

Family plays a central role in her life, as she shares her journey with a supportive husband, three children and two dogs.  Together, they enjoy the enriching experiences of travel, the joy of reading and music and cherished moments with family and friends.  Given that the story is based on her

 

Experience with her newborn and the fact that her children have illustrated the book – the pages are literally filled with love and family.

My Story

After two decades of nurturing her dream, she realised a significant milestone – publishing a book that reflects her deep love for babies and family.  This achievement is not just a culmination of her literary aspirations but also a celebration of her love of family, dedication to early childhood education and her commitment to creating meaningful and enriching experiences for infants and their families.

 

Through her book, she hopes to impart the same love, warmth and joy that she treasures within her own family, fostering connections and cherished memories for families. 

 

Her journey from aspiring teacher to published author is a testament to perseverance, passion and a lifelong dedication to young minds and hearts.

The Design Behind Baby Star

Baby Star is designed with several important features to cater specifically to infants and young children.

 

1 – Board Book

Baby Star pages are made from paperboard which is thick and sturdy. This makes them durable and easy to handle without tearing.

2 – Rounded Corners

To ensure safety and reduce the risk of injury if chewed or accidentally bumped – Baby Star is designed with rounded corners.

3 – Simple and High Contrast illustrations

Baby Star is illustrated by children – for children. The black-and-white format attracts babies’ attention and helps them to focus.

4 – Short and Simple rhyming text

The text in Baby Star is brief, straightforward and rhyming.  This supports language development and keeps the baby engaged.

 

5- Sturdy Binding

Baby Star has a strong binding that withstands repeated opening and closing by little hands.  This ensures that the book. Remains intact through frequent use.

 

6 – Easy to clean

Given that babies can be messy, Baby Star pages are wipeable and easy to clean with a damp cloth this is to maintain hygiene and ensure It is a treasured book for a long time.  It also means that the book can be taken out and about with the baby.
